A few wines

November 2014

A few wines for your consideration: (NB: taxes are extra on wines from agents)

From Nokhrin Wines

Whites:

France: Saumur La grande Roche 2013: from the Loire Valley, a nice dry, aromatic and fruity wine, with good acidity, structure & body, similar to the region’s Sauvignon Blancs, but made from Chenin Blanc. Real value at $14.00

France: Always good! (we have bought it for the last 4 years) AC Touraine Sauvignon Blanc Gibault, 2013 (available from agent Nokhrin wines). The real taste of SB: crisp, mineral, fruity with a (medium) body on top. Chill well and enjoy on its own or to start. At $13 it is  a steal (you need to start at $20 New Zealand SB to match it)!

Reds:

France: Saumur Champigny 2013 Jean Pierre Richardeau: A rare one to find in Ontario, especially at that price. Another Loire Valley classic, made from Cabernet Franc grappes, but in a light and fruity (Beaujolais) style. Nice nose with a garnet colour, good fruit in the mouth, light tannins, fruity. I prefer to drink it a little chilled (aperitif, salads, charcuterie). $14. Will keep well for a couple of years or more.

Italy: Toscana Pometti 2009: Great value red from Sangiovese grappes. With a nice, medium body, smooth, and a lot of fruit. Cannot go wrong for $16 and it will be good for a few more years.

From Nicholas Pearce, Tannin Fine Wines:

White:

Italy: Soave Classico, Tessari, 2013: Gargagena grappes. Refreshing acidity coupled with a nice stucture-body and length. $17

France: Cotes de Bordeaux/Blaye, Chateau Haut Grelot 2013: A classic Bordeaux white blend of Sauvignon Blanc & Semillon; Dry, medium body and acidity to let you enjoy the fruit. $17

Red:

Italy: Rosso di Montalcino, La Manella, 2013: Made from Sangiovese grappes, does not spend several years in oak like his big brother the Brunello. Medium body, with light tannins for structure, a lot of red fruits and smoothness and (you can expect more of it in a few years). $26
