This year’s wine tour took place on Saturday October 15th 2016 when we visited wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake region..
We left the Oakville Go Station sharply at 9:00 AM and Tom Alton somehow managed to keep us on schedule throughout the day. Our first stop wase at Stratus winery where we visited the vineyard. winery, and tasting room. At our second winery, Rancourt Winery, we had a lunch of sandwiches, meats, cheeses, veggies, and their famous butter tarts. While having our lunch we tasted some of Rancourt wines. The third was Marynissen, and the fourth winery, Pondview. The fifth winery was Iceellars – very recently started up in June 2016, where we had a barrel tasting.
Our last winery on the tour was at Niagara College Winery. Jim Warren. who started up this winery, was one of our guests on the tour and made our tour guide somewhat nervous, though not intentionaly.
A fabulous dinner was in adjoining building at the Niagara Teaching College BenchMark Restaurant. The students there seem well prepared for their future careers.
Many thanks to our organizers – Richard Birkett, Jim Henry and Garry Graham.
