won·der·ful - adjective
inspiring delight, pleasure, or admiration
Wonderful. How else to describe IWFS Oakville’s annual Christmas event at Langdon Hall?
There are loads of apt adjectives but wonderful pretty much sums it up. Langdon Hall itself inspires delight, rising from a winding drive through the woods to the grand former home of a grandson of John Jacob Astor. But at Christmas time it glows from the welcoming fires to the artful, yet natural decorations; it was a truly magical setting. So how then to ensure our dining lived up to this splendid location? Richard Birkett, who organized our evening, certainly needn’t have worried. The chef and sommelier of Langdon Hall, which boasts two Michelin stars, devised a menu and wines which gave great pleasure indeed. As the night waned our happy, sleepy group was revived – for what to our wondering eyes did appear? Our chef with his entire supporting staff! Still flushed from the heat of the kitchen, they were all smiling and graciously received our boundless gratitude and admiration.
It’s very hard to imagine a more wonderful evening but we here in Oakville do hope the rest of IWFS enjoyed their seasonal festivities just as much. We wish you all a very happy 2018.
