Wine and Cheese Event – February 2018

Our event was held at the Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre 1086 Burnhanthorpe Road East, Oakville ON L6J 7B2 (just east of Trafalgar Rd.) tel 905-257-4730

We commenced with tasting a 2009 Charmes de Rieussec Sauternes paired with Foie Gras which was hand made by the Executive Committee, followed by tasting five wines paired with ten cheeses. The individually plated cheeses are from the renowned Farmhouse Artisan Cheese shop on Kerr Street in Oakville and presented by the very knowledgeable Store Manager, Dylan Brettingham. All the wines are sourced from our own IWFS cellar and are some of the best wines for this cheese tasting. There were 10 cheeses selected and each participant went around the plate trying the different cheeses with the different wines. Dylan Brettingham introduced each cheese and wine prior to the tasting and discussed why they paired well together. Everyone received a sheet with information to take home, making it easier to follow during the tasting Baguettes proved to be excellent to cleanse the palate (no surprise).

  • 1) Delouvin-Bagnost Champagne with “Delice de Bourgogne” & “Comté”
  • 2) 2015 Tessari Soave Classico Grisela with “Mozzarella di Bufala” & “Grey Owl”
  • 3) 2015 Callaway Coastal Chardonnay with “Manchego” & “Avonlea Clothbound Cheddar”
  • 4) 2013 Chateau Maris Syrah Minervois with “4yr Aged Gouda” & “Appenzeller Surchoix”
  • 5) 2001 Domaine de Rancy Rivesaltes Ambré with “Tallegio” & “Stilton”
