Welcome Back and Silver Medal Awards, August 11, 2021

The Oakville Chapter resumed in-person events with a bang on August 11, 2021. Channeling our excitement into a blowout event featuring lobster rolls, grilled shrimp, Porcini-dusted scallops and many other wonderful canapés, we returned to one of our favourite locations, the idyllic farm setting of Joshua Creek Heritage Arts Centre, a space dedicated to the fine arts.

This event was an opportunity to present two IWFS Board of Directors of the Americas Silver Medals to longtime chapter members Tom Alton and Christian Frayssignes. The Silver Medal awards individual IWFS Americas members for their outstanding service for a period of at least three years.

Christian Frayssignes has enthusiastically extolled the Society’s values for wine, food and friends since our inception in 2004. Not only was he one of the founding members of our Chapter, but he has also served on the Executive Committee since then, right up until present day. Christian was President 2007-2010 again 2017-2019. His major contribution was the establishment of our 500-bottle wine cellar where he is the Cellar Master.

Tom Alton has played an active role since 2005. Tom was one of the first members of our Chapter and has been very active at the Executive Committee level for many years (2007-2014 and 2017-2019) as Treasurer and he even was gracious enough to step into that role once again, on an interim basis through a transition period. Not only was Tom our Treasurer, but he contributes on a regular basis by organizing many great events, which enables him to share his passion and knowledge for great wines.
